Scented Playdough

Playing with dough can build up all the tiny muscles and tendons in your childs hands, making it easier for them to control pencils and scissors later on.

Adding ‘smells’ to your doughs creates another sensory experience and can help relieve stress! Orange scents can even calm fractious children. We love making chocolate scented dough during our Teddy Bear topic as it is great for making our teddy bears, or for making play cakes and biscuits.

You could even let the children make the dough…they will love it!

You will need: 2 cups of plain flour, 1 cup of salt, 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar, two tablespoons of cooking oil, ½ cup of cocoa powder, 5 drops of glycerine and 1 ½ cups of boiling water.

Then…

Put the boiling water and glycerin to the side. Mix everything else together in a bowl, then add the boiling water and mix with a wooden spoon. Once the mixture cools to room temperature take it out and knead until soft. Then add the glycerin and need again.
And that’s it! You are ready to play with your chocolate scented dough.

Store in an airtight container and it should last up to 6 months.
